POWER SITUATION UPDATE
NEWS UPDATE AS OF 10/09/09, 5 PM
Meralco held a press briefing this afternoon to apprise reporters of developments in the power situation. The company announced that Meralco crews have been at Dolores Substation since this morning, assisting the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in the repair of its damaged equipment.
The NGCP said that it expects to energize transformer bank no. 3 any time tonight. It is also doing its best to energize transformer bank no. 4 soon. If bank no. 3 is energized, the duration of power interruptions would be reduced to just one hour over the weekend when demand is historically low. If bank no. 4 does follow suit soon after, we can expect to have a brownout-free weekend. But again, it all depends on developments on the transmission side. In the meantime, Meralco persists in its efforts to reduce the duration of interruptions.
