Lower Electricity rates in June

LOWER ELECTRICITY RATES IN JUNE. Meralco announced Thursday that there will be another rate reduction in June amounting to Php1.43 per kWh, following a PhP0.29 per kWh rate decline in May. This brings down this month’s overall rate to PhP8.17 per kWh, and translates to a PhP285 decrease in the total bill of a typical residential household consuming 200kWh. This month’s overall rate is the second lowest since December 2009. Meralco Utility Economics Head Larry Fernandez said that the June rate reflects the refund from past years’ over-recovery on pass-through charges, translating to a PhP0.79 per kWh drop in residential bill. Also significantly contributing to the rate drop is the decline in overall generation charge this June due to lower WESM, IPP and PSA costs.
