Energy Consumption Calculator

Estimate how an appliance can contribute to monthly electricity use. The result is a planning aid, not a meter reading or a guaranteed bill amount.

What the estimate can tell you

The official Appliance Calculator uses your average monthly bill to determine the rate per kWh. Select an appliance, then set how long and how often you use it. Compare estimates using realistic usage assumptions.

Prepare these details

  • Your average monthly bill amount.
  • The appliance model and wattage from its nameplate, manual, or energy label.
  • Realistic operating hours and frequency of use.

Actual bills can also include other charges, taxes, adjustments, billing-day differences, and the combined use of every device in the household.

Build a useful estimate in five steps

Use consistent assumptions so the scenarios you compare are meaningful.

  1. Enter your average monthly bill

Enter your average monthly bill amount; the calculator uses it to determine the rate per kWh.

  2. Identify the exact appliance

Select the matching appliance and check its listed wattage against its nameplate or manual.

  3. Enter realistic usage

Enter the Hours used per day, Days used per week and Weeks used per month for the selected appliance, based on your normal household use.

  4. Change one assumption

Adjust one factor at a time so you can see which habit or equipment choice changes the estimate.

  5. Compare with the full bill

Treat the appliance result as one part of household consumption and review it beside your billing history.

Calculator questions

Keep these limits in mind when you interpret the result.

  1. Will the estimate match my bill?

Not exactly. A bill combines every device used during the billing period plus applicable charges, taxes, adjustments, and account-specific details. The calculator is best used for comparison and planning.

  2. What if I cannot find the wattage?

Check the appliance nameplate, manual, manufacturer documentation, or official energy label. Avoid assuming that two products with the same capacity always use the same power.

  3. Why can actual use differ from rated power?

Many appliances cycle on and off or vary their output. Temperature, settings, room conditions, loading, maintenance, and user behavior can all change actual consumption.
