Greening the Network
As Meralco modernizes its distribution network, sustainability remains at the heart of transformation.
Through Greening the Network, we integrate eco-friendly technologies and materials into our infrastructure to reduce environmental impact while strengthening resilience and efficiency.
Program milestones include the transition from mineral oil to biodegradable natural ester oil in transformers, the adoption of longer-lasting lithium iron phosphate batteries, the reduction of plastic waste, and the phaseout of hazardous wooden poles. The program likewise advances renewable energy integration, supporting the Company’s broader decarbonization goals.
By embedding sustainability into core operations, Meralco is building a power network that is more reliable, future-ready, and aligned with the needs of a low-carbon future.
Green Mobility
Through our Green Mobility Program, we are driving cleaner transport by electrifying our service fleet.
Since its rollout, nearly 160 electric vehicles—including cars, motorcycles, pick-up trucks, and vans—have been deployed across our Business Centers and Sector Offices, supported by 15 charging stations within our franchise area.
By achieving a 5% electrification rate, we have already met the benchmark set by the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), and we are firmly on course to electrify 25% of our fleet by 2030. Green Mobility embodies our commitment to sustainable operations, reduced emissions, and a future powered by smarter, cleaner transport solutions.
Resource Conservation and Efficiency Program
Meralco recognizes that meaningful climate action begins within its own operations.
Through the Resource Conservation and Efficiency Program, we implement initiatives that reduce our own electricity and water resource consumption across facilities—lowering operating costs while cutting indirect emissions.
Key measures include the conversion of conventional air-conditioning units to inverter systems, deployment of solar installations, reuse of treated water from sewage treatment plants, among others.
By integrating conservation practices into the workplace, we foster a culture of environmental responsibility and strengthen Meralco’s broader sustainability and climate goals.
Race to Zero Waste
Through our Race to Zero Waste Program, Meralco strengthens its commitment to responsible consumption and waste management across all Company offices and facilities.
The program continues to minimize waste generation and to divert waste away from landfills through stronger recycling, recovery, and circularity initiatives.
Our Company-wide ban on single-use plastics, coupled with expanded waste management facilities, partnerships with recycling companies, and employee awareness campaigns, has led to a 98% waste diversion rate—underscoring how collective action and accountability can build a more circular and environmentally responsible future. This ban is likewise strongly supported by our supply chain partners, reflecting shared commitment to responsible waste management across the value chain.
