Solar Power

Prepare for a residential solar assessment by reviewing daytime consumption, roof and shade, system design, installer support, approvals, and maintenance.

Start with the home, not the panel count

A useful solar proposal begins with recent consumption and the electricity used while the system is producing. Roof orientation, shade, structure, weather, inverter choice, wiring, protection, and system losses all affect expected output.

Ask a prospective installer to document

  • The site survey, shade assessment, usable roof area, and structural assumptions.
  • The proposed module and inverter models, layout, capacity, expected production, and calculation basis.
  • Electrical protection, isolation, grounding, labels, monitoring, and emergency procedures.
  • Permits, utility connection steps, warranties, maintenance, and after-sales support.
  • How production and household use will be measured and compared after commissioning.

Exporting excess electricity is a separate process from installing a system. Review current interconnection and Net Metering requirements before treating export credits as part of a financial decision.
